Rodrigo De Paul Joins Inter Miami: A New Chapter for the Club
Inter Miami has secured the incorporation of Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, coming from Atletico Madrid. The official announcement was made on Friday, marking a significant milestone for the MLS team. De Paul, 31, initially arrives on loan until the end of 2025, with an option to extend his contract until the 2029 MLS season. This strategy allows Inter Miami to evaluate the player’s performance before making a long-term commitment. The world champion with Argentina in Qatar 2022 will not initially occupy a designated player spot at Inter Miami, as those positions are held by Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets. However, if a designated player spot becomes available at the end of the loan, Inter Miami could offer De Paul a more extensive contract. “What brings me to Inter Miami is the desire to compete, win titles, write pages in the club’s history. It’s a club that is being formed to be great, to have a long history, so that many people follow this incredible team.” With only one year remaining on his contract with Atletico Madrid, both parties reached an agreement that makes De Paul the latest star to join Inter Miami. The arrival of De Paul is part of Inter Miami’s vision to strengthen its squad and improve the quality both on and off the field.De Paul joins his compatriot and Argentine captain, Lionel Messi, with whom the club hopes to extend his contract beyond December 2025. In addition, De Paul was part of the Argentine team that won the Copa America in 2021 and 2024.“We are delighted to sign a player of Rodrigo’s caliber. He is a winner who has conquered the world stage; his ambitions align with ours at Inter Miami, and we are eager to achieve these goals together.”
Jorge Mas, Managing Owner of Inter Miami
De Paul arrived at Atlético de Madrid in July 2021 from Udinese of Serie A in a deal worth 35 million euros, where he played 187 matches, scoring 14 goals and providing 26 assists. Last season, De Paul was a key player for Diego Simeone’s team, participating in 53 matches across all competitions, including three appearances in the Club World Cup. Atlético de Madrid, for its part, has reinforced its midfield this summer with the arrival of Johnny Cardoso, Alex Baena, and Thiago Almada.“Rodrigo is a player I have admired for many years. As a leader, he has contributed a lot to the teams he has played for, especially with his Argentinian national team. He brings experience, passion, and quality to our team and our city. I am excited to welcome another World Cup winner not only to Inter Miami, but also to MLS.”
