Dean Huijsen: “I aspire to be like Sergio Ramos”
Real Madrid’s new signing, Dean Huijsen, has expressed his admiration for Sergio Ramos, considering him his “idol.” The central defender, who recently signed a five-year contract with the merengue club, has shared his aspirations and expectations after his arrival.
Huijsen, who is currently concentrated with the Spanish national team for the UEFA Nations League semi-final against France, spoke with Diario AS about his inspiration in the legendary former Real Madrid captain.
Dean Huijsen joined Bournemouth in July 2024 before signing for Real Madrid.
“I try to aspire to be like Sergio Ramos. He is my idol. For me, he is very complete, he had everything. In terms of leadership, scoring goals, personality, character,” Huijsen stated.

The young defender, born in Amsterdam but raised in Malaga, has experienced a meteoric rise in the last twelve months. His performance at Bournemouth in the Premier League earned him his debut with the Spanish national team in March, before finalizing his signing for Real Madrid.
Before arriving at the white team, Huijsen had a stint in the youth categories of Málaga, then with Juventus, a loan at Roma, and finally his time at Bournemouth in July 2024.
“My plan was to spend two years in Bournemouth, grow, and then decide what to do next. But things have gone very fast, faster than I expected,” explained the player.

Real Madrid is in the process of restructuring its defense after a disappointing season. In addition to Huijsen, the club has brought in Trent Alexander-Arnold and is negotiating the arrival of Álvaro Carreras.
Huijsen also revealed having spoken with the new coach, Xabi Alonso, about the team’s plans, which will participate in the Club World Cup this month.“We’ve talked a bit about the team and what he has in mind, and about the project. Of course, we want to win things again, and I’m sure we will… I don’t think I’ve realized it yet. But I’m here in Madrid, and I will try to do my best,” he added.

At Real Madrid, Huijsen joins a locker room full of stars, which, however, failed to consolidate this season.
The team, which finished second in LaLiga, lost the Copa del Rey final and was eliminated in the Champions League quarter-finals, suffered four consecutive defeats against Barcelona.
Real Madrid will begin its participation in the Club World Cup against Al Hilal in Miami, Florida, on June 18, followed by matches against Pachuca on June 22 and Salzburg on June 26.“I want to play with the best. Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham, all in attack: they are some of the best there are,” concluded Huijsen.
