Manchester United have reached an agreement with Napoli for the loan of striker Rasmus Højlund until the end of the season, according to sources close to the club. The initial agreement includes a transfer fee of 6 million euros, with an obligation to buy for 44 million euros if the Italian team qualifies for the Champions League. Confirmation of the personal terms agreed between Højlund and Napoli is expected to give the definitive green light to the transfer. Højlund was not included in the Manchester United squad for the Premier League match against Burnley on Saturday.

The 22-year-old player has not participated in any of Manchester United’s first four matches this season and his last appearance was as a substitute in the last match of the pre-season tour of the United States against Everton in Atlanta. During his time in the United States, Højlund expressed his desire to stay and fight for a place in the team this season. However, the arrival of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig and his continued absence in Ruben Amorim’s plans have changed the course of the situation. Højlund, with previous experience in Italy with Atalanta, seeks to have as many minutes as possible ahead of next summer’s World Cup. If his signing with Napoli materializes, he would reunite with his former teammate Scott McTominay, who joined the Italian team 12 months ago. Napoli will face Manchester City in the Champions League on September 18.
