The coach of the United States women’s national soccer team, Emma Hayes, has stated that the team is entering a new phase as it prepares for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The next match will be against Canada at Audi Field, a clash between two of the top eight teams in the world. Hayes hopes to see significant progress in the details of the game, as this will be the team’s last match in four months.
Hayes has given 24 players the opportunity to debut in the 24 matches she has managed for the USWNT during the last year. The coach has mentioned that she will reduce the squad starting from the next training camp in October. Hayes expects each player to improve in specific areas. As an example, she mentioned Emma Sears, who showed improvement in the final pass in the area during the 4-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland.“I want to see how much we’ve learned from playing against top-level opponents. We have the opportunity to show how much we’ve improved in the details, and not just with six or seven experienced players; but with more players capable of doing so. That’s what I expect from the team.”

Canada, led by former English international player Casey Stoney, is a team that will test a young United States team in moments of transition. The Wednesday match will be the 67th encounter between the United States and Canada, with 53 victories for the United States. Stoney anticipates an intense match against the USWNT and sees it as a test for Canada. “We come here to see what we are made of. There will be no fear in our dressing room.” Hayes and his team are creating a “master plan” for team building, in preparation for 2027 and beyond, which will help make decisions in the next training camp. Hayes, who has been in the job for just over a year and won the Olympic gold medal in her tenth match, compared her role as USWNT coach to that of a grandfather.“I feel that there is still room to improve the conversion of the opportunities we generate. The second thing is that movement is important to destabilize the opponent, but we must maintain structures to minimize the impact of the rival.”

Hayes expressed his gratitude for the position and stated that it exceeds his expectations.“They come, you give them your best, and then you give them back to their parents.”
