Guadalajara and Monterrey: Host Cities for the Intercontinental Play-off Tournament for the 2026 World Cup

FIFA announced this Wednesday that the Mexican cities of Guadalajara and Monterrey will be the venues for the intercontinental play-off tournament for the FIFA World Cup 2026. This exciting event, which will begin on March 23, will bring together six teams from five different confederations, who will fight to secure two coveted places for next summer’s World Cup, which will be held in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

The stadiums in Guadalajara and Monterrey, which are already ready to host World Cup matches, will be the epicenter of this crucial phase.
Estadio Jalisco
The Jalisco Stadium has hosted World Cup matches in 1970 and 1986. The teams that will compete in this repechage tournament are: Iraq, Congo, Jamaica, Suriname, Bolivia and New Caledonia. The draw to define the matches will take place on Thursday in Zurich, and the match schedule will be announced later. In next year’s World Cup, the Guadalajara stadium will host four group stage matches, while the Monterrey stadium will host three group stage matches and a round of sixteen match. The recently renovated Azteca Stadium will also be one of the Mexican venues for the World Cup.
