Guadalajara and Monterrey: Host Cities for the Intercontinental Playoff for the 2026 World Cup

FIFA announced this Wednesday that the Mexican cities of Guadalajara and Monterrey will be the venues for the intercontinental playoffs tournament for the 2026 World Cup. The tournament, which will begin on March 23, will feature the participation of six teams from five confederations. These teams will compete for two spots for next summer’s World Cup, which will be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

The six teams that will participate are: Iraq, Congo, Jamaica, Suriname, Bolivia, and New Caledonia. The draw will take place on Thursday in Zurich, and the match schedule will be announced later. In next year’s World Cup, the Guadalajara stadium will host four group stage matches, while the Monterrey stadium will be the scene of three group stage matches and a round of sixteen match. The other Mexican stadium that will host World Cup matches will be the renovated Azteca stadium.
