Guadalajara and Monterrey: Luxury Venues for the 2026 World Cup Intercontinental Playoff

FIFA announced this Wednesday that the Mexican cities of Guadalajara and Monterrey will host the intercontinental play-off tournament for the 2026 World Cup. The tournament, which will begin on March 23, will feature the participation of six national teams from five confederations, who will compete for the last two tickets to next summer’s World Cup, which will be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

The stadiums in Guadalajara and Monterrey will also be venues for World Cup matches.
Estadio Jalisco
The Jalisco Stadium has hosted World Cup matches in 1970 and 1986. The six participating teams are: Iraq, Congo, Jamaica, Suriname, Bolivia and New Caledonia. The draw will take place on Thursday in Zurich, and the match schedule will be announced later. In next year’s World Cup, the Guadalajara stadium will host four group stage matches, while the Monterrey stadium will host three group stage matches and a round of sixteen match. The other Mexican stadium that will host the World Cup is the recently renovated Azteca stadium.
