Mason Greenwood shines with four goals in Marseille’s victory
Forward Mason Greenwood, in a stellar performance, scored four goals, his personal best, leading Marseille to a resounding 6-2 victory over Le Havre, who played with one man less. This triumph allows Marseille to surpass Paris Saint-Germain and rise to the top of Ligue 1. Greenwood, who joined Marseille in the summer of 2024, was unstoppable, guiding the team to their fifth consecutive victory. After eight matchdays, Marseille is one point above PSG, who drew at home against Strasbourg on Friday. Marseille has demonstrated a great goal-scoring ability, with 21 goals in eight matches, and a solid defense under the direction of coach Roberto De Zerbi.Following the expulsion of Gautier Lloris, defender for Le Havre, Greenwood converted the penalty that equalized the score, after Yassine Kechta put the visiting team ahead. Greenwood continued his performance with three more goals in the second half. Greenwood finished last season as top scorer, tied with Ousmane Dembélé with 21 goals, although Dembélé took the trophy for having scored fewer penalties. Greenwood became the first Marseille player to score four goals in a Ligue 1 match since Jean-Pierre Papin in 1991.“It was a perfect night,” stated Marseille captain Leonardo Balerdi.
