Veteran striker Steven Fletcher announced his departure from Wrexham upon the conclusion of his contract this summer, although it was not by his own choice.
The Welsh club, known for its co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, is preparing to compete in the Championship, the second division of English football, after being promoted from League One.
The team has achieved promotions in three consecutive seasons.

The 38-year-old former Scotland international, who had spells at Burnley, Sunderland and Marseille, described Wrexham as “the most magical club I’ve played for”.
It is with great sadness, and not of my own choosing, that I unfortunately have to announce my departure from what I can only describe as the most magical club I have ever played for.

Fletcher added that he had never experienced anything like it in his 22-year career. He thanked the opportunity to fall in love with the game again and highlighted his teammates as the best group he has shared a locker room with.
Knee injuries limited his role to “super sub”, but he finished the season as the team’s top scorer in the league, with eight goals, despite starting in only two matches.
Fletcher’s exit comes after Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson confirmed that “legends” Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer will remain part of the club’s plans for next season.
