Flamengo Crowned Libertadores Cup Champion After Defeating Palmeiras

In a vibrant final played on Saturday, defender Danilo, with a past at Juventus, scored the decisive goal that gave Flamengo the victory over Palmeiras by 1-0, thus securing the title of the Copa Libertadores. Danilo, who also played for Real Madrid and Manchester City in Europe, scored with a header in the 67th minute of the match. This triumph represents Flamengo’s fourth Copa Libertadores, the first since 2022. Their previous victories were in 1981 and 2019. With this new title, Brazil equals Argentina as the most laureled nation in the history of the tournament, totaling 25 titles. Flamengo, in addition to the prestigious title, took home a sum of 24 million dollars and a place in the 2029 Club World Cup. The team will also participate in the Recopa, facing Lanús, champion of the Copa Sudamericana. The runner-up received 7 million dollars. Brazilian teams have dominated the Copa Libertadores for seven consecutive years. The last non-Brazilian team to win the tournament was River Plate of Argentina, in 2018, by defeating Boca Juniors.
