Flamengo Crowned Libertadores Cup Champion After Defeating Palmeiras

Defender Danilo, with a past at Juventus, was the hero of the match by scoring the only goal that gave Flamengo the victory over Palmeiras in the final of the Copa Libertadores. The match, played on Saturday, ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of Flamengo, thus securing their fourth title in this prestigious South American tournament. Danilo, who also played for Real Madrid and Manchester City, scored with a header in the 67th minute, unleashing euphoria in the ranks of Flamengo. This triumph represents Flamengo’s fourth Copa Libertadores title, the first since 2022. Their previous victories were in 1981 and 2019.

I told my players that it would be the biggest Libertadores final and that we would play in it. I think the level of our opponent values the effort and the victory even more.

Filipe Luís, Flamengo coach
With this new title, Brazil equals Argentina as the nation with the most Copa Libertadores titles, both with 25. Flamengo pocketed $24 million and a spot in the 2029 Club World Cup. In addition, they will play the Recopa against Lanús, winner of the Copa Sudamericana. Brazilian teams have dominated the Copa Libertadores in the last seven years. The last non-Brazilian team to win the title was River Plate in 2018.
