The Copa Libertadores trophy, won by Flamengo on Saturday, suffered damage during the team’s celebrations.
Flamengo defeated Palmeiras 1-0 in the final held in Lima, Peru, securing their fourth title in the prestigious competition, becoming the first Brazilian club to achieve this feat.
On Sunday afternoon, Flamengo players and staff celebrated with a parade through the streets of Rio de Janeiro, where an estimated half a million people joined the celebration.
Players and staff took turns lifting the cup during the parade, and images revealed that the top of the trophy, which includes a figure of a soccer player about to kick the ball, was wrapped in tape.
Flamengo will seek to secure the Brazilian league title on Wednesday when they face Ceará at the Maracanã stadium in Rio.
Currently, they lead the table with a five-point advantage over Palmeiras, with two matchdays remaining until the end.
