EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Rúben Amorim has acknowledged the importance of Bruno Fernandes staying at Manchester United this summer, after the midfielder once again proved his worth with two goals in the 2-1 pre-season victory over West Ham. Fernandes scored a penalty and a second exquisite goal from outside the area, marking the start of United’s US tour with a victory at MetLife Stadium. The 30-year-old player could have left Old Trafford in June after considering a lucrative offer from the Saudi team Al Hilal. He decided to stay and Amorim claims he was crucial for United.
“I think he has more players now. I felt it on the tour. I felt that there are more players now to help him lead the group. That’s good. But he is our leader, so it’s really important. Not only on the field, but also off it.”“It was very clear last season,” said Amorim. “You can see it in the assists, the goals. Not only that.”
