Law Approved to Regulate Professional Football in England

In a decisive vote, Members of Parliament (MPs) backed the creation of a regulator for professional football through the “Football Governance Bill.” This key legislation establishes a new framework for the operation of clubs, including the implementation of operating licenses. The bill, which is now moving towards enactment, obtained broad support in the House of Commons, with 415 votes in favor and 98 against, representing a majority of 317 votes. Lisa Nandy, Shadow Culture Secretary, highlighted that the bill, which will establish a regulator for the Premier League and the English Football League (EFL), seeks to guarantee the financial sustainability of the clubs and prevent situations of bankruptcy.

We promised in our manifesto that we would end years of inaction and make the changes that fans have fought for for so long and that are so necessary.
