Luis Díaz, suspended for three matches after his expulsion in the Champions League

Bayern Munich winger Luis Díaz has been suspended for three matches by UEFA, following the red card received in the match against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. UEFA determined that Díaz committed “serious foul play” in his tackle on Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain, in added time of the first half of the Champions League match, where Bayern won 2-1 at the Parc des Princes.
  • Díaz scored two goals and received a red card in the first half against PSG.
  • Sources: Hakimi will be out for six weeks after Díaz’s tackle.
Díaz had an outstanding performance in Paris, scoring Bayern’s two goals in the first half before being sent off. The Colombian international will miss Bayern’s match against Arsenal on Wednesday, as well as the home matches against Sporting CP (December 9) and Union Saint-Gilloise (January 21).

Díaz has been a key player for Bayern Munich during a record-breaking start to the season, where they won their first 16 matches in all competitions, before drawing 2-2 with Union Berlin. After arriving from Liverpool this summer, Díaz has 11 goals and seven assists in his first 17 appearances. Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany also has a concern about Serge Gnabry’s physical condition and hopes not to have the forward for Saturday’s Bundesliga match against Freiburg. Gnabry played the full 90 minutes in Germany’s 6-0 victory over Slovakia, where they secured their place for next summer’s World Cup, but he has returned to training with a muscle injury.

“Serge returned from international commitments and still felt a pull,” Kompany said on Friday. “We’ll see, he probably won’t be involved against Freiburg, we hope he’ll be there for the next match.”
