Concacaf Monitors the Situation in Los Angeles Ahead of the Gold Cup Start

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) has expressed its concern for safety in Los Angeles, a few days before the start of the Gold Cup. The entity has stated that it is in “constant communication” with local authorities due to the ongoing protests in the city. The tournament will begin this Saturday with the match between Mexico and the Dominican Republic at SoFi Stadium. However, tensions persist in some areas of the city following immigration raids that have led to demonstrations. The safety and well-being of all participants, fans, and stakeholders is the Confederation’s top priority. Concacaf has assured that it will closely monitor the situation to ensure a world-class, safe, and inclusive tournament. The opening match is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2025. Mexico has decided to move its hotel from downtown Los Angeles to Long Beach due to security concerns related to clashes between ICE and protesters. Los Ángeles is also preparing to host FIFA Club World Cup matches, including the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético de Madrid at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Sunday. The FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, has stated that he has no concerns about attendance at the Club World Cup matches.

The most important thing for us is to ensure the safety of all fans attending the matches, and that is our priority and that of all the authorities present here.
