The Classic: Real Madrid vs. Barcelona in the 2025-26 Season

The first Clásico of the LaLiga season will be played on Sunday, October 26th at 4:15 p.m., local time. Real Madrid will host Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu in this highly anticipated match between the two giants of Spanish football.

Real Madrid currently leads the LaLiga table with a perfect 18 points after six matchdays. Barcelona, the current champion, closely follows the merengues and will play a match against Real Oviedo on Thursday. In the 2024-25 season, Barcelona dominated the four Clásicos, achieving victories in LaLiga, the Spanish Super Cup, and the Copa del Rey. Hansi Flick’s team secured a resounding 4-0 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 26, 2024, followed by a 5-2 win in the Super Cup final in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Subsequently, Barcelona won the Copa del Rey final, with a closer score of 3-2 in Seville, and finally won the last Clásico of the season at Montjuic by 4-3, after Madrid initially took the lead.

Barcelona’s dominance in the Clásicos helped them win a domestic treble last season, including LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa, while Madrid ended the campaign without any major titles. The meeting next month could feature seven of the top 30 players in the 2025 Ballon d’Or ranking: Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Kylian Mbappé, Pedri, Vinícius Júnior, Robert Lewandowski, and Jude Bellingham. Mbappé is LaLiga’s top scorer so far this season with five goals, closely followed by Barcelona’s Ferran Torres, with four. The October match will be the first Clásico for Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso, who took over this summer.
