Chelsea Seeks to Bolster its Squad with the Talent of Lily Yohannes
Chelsea, the current champion of the Women’s Super League (WSL), has shown interest in the young American soccer player Lily Yohannes for next season. Sources close to the club have confirmed the interest, although no offer has yet been formalized due to the player’s age.
Yohannes, 17, currently plays for Ajax in the Women’s Eredivisie and will turn 18 on June 12. Her contract with the Dutch club expires in 2026.
The midfielder faced Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals last season, when the team was still under the management of coach Emma Hayes.
The young prospect chose to represent the United States women’s national team, scoring a goal in her debut against South Korea in 2024.
A source revealed that Yohannes is open to the possibility of joining the London club, but has not yet made a definitive decision about his future.
Chelsea clinched their sixth consecutive league title with two matchdays to spare, accumulating a record of 60 points after an undefeated season, with 19 wins and three draws.
In January, the London team signed the also American Naomi Girma, making her the first player to exceed one million dollars in transfers, and also incorporated the English star Keira Walsh.
