Chelsea Faces FA Charges for Alleged Breaches

Chelsea, a Premier League team, is at the center of controversy after being charged by the Football Association (FA) with 74 counts related to alleged violations of regulations on agents. According to the FA, the accusations are based on conduct that occurred between 2009 and 2022, a period during which the club was owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. The most relevant events allegedly took place between the 2010-11 and 2015-16 seasons. The London club has until September 19 to respond to the charges presented. Chelsea has confirmed that it was the club itself that “self-reported” the matter to the FA.

The group that owns the club completed the purchase on May 30, 2022. During an exhaustive due diligence process prior to the completion of the purchase, the owning group became aware of potentially incomplete financial reports relating to historical transactions and other possible breaches of FA rules.

Chelsea Statement
The club’s statement adds that, immediately after completing the purchase, these matters were reported to all relevant regulators, including the FA. Chelsea insists it has demonstrated unprecedented transparency during this process, allowing full access to the club’s historical files and data. The club is committed to continuing to collaborate with the FA to resolve the matter as soon as possible. The club also expressed its gratitude to the FA for its collaboration in this complex case, which focuses on events that occurred more than a decade ago.
