Ceballos stops his move to Marseille and aims for Betis
Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos has put his transfer to Olympique de Marseille on hold, according to information gathered by Alofoke Deportes. The player seeks to fulfill his desire to return to Real Betis.
Ceballos, 29 years old, had everything ready to move to Ligue 1, with progress in negotiations between Madrid and Marseille on Tuesday. However, Betis’ intervention has stopped the agreement.
The Spanish international has been a substitute in the first two LaLiga matches this season under the management of Xabi Alonso, playing only four minutes against Osasuna and Real Oviedo. Ceballos has expressed to Madrid his desire to leave the Santiago Bernabéu to have more continuity in another club.
Ceballos, who was a starter in several matches last season under Carlo Ancelotti, believes he will not have many opportunities under Alonso. He sees a change of scenery as necessary to compete for a place in the Spanish national team for the 2026 World Cup.
Marseille was interested in signing Ceballos and both clubs reached an agreement on Tuesday for a loan with a mandatory purchase option of 15 million euros.
However, the transfer is on hold due to the player’s insistence. Ceballos is now considering other alternatives, and the one he is most interested in is joining Betis, the club he supports and where he played as a youth.Dani Ceballos seemed headed to Marseille.Ceballos and Betis are looking for a way to finalize the transfer.
Betis is also negotiating the signing of Antony from Manchester United, but they are confident they can sign Ceballos.
If Betis doesn’t reach an agreement with Madrid, the possibility of Ceballos staying at the Bernabéu is not ruled out, following the player’s reversal.
Madrid has considered possible replacements for Ceballos in the market, but has not yet been convinced by any.
It is not ruled out that the young Thiago Pitarch, 18 years old, will take his place in the first team. Alonso, however, would prefer a new signing if Ceballos finally leaves.
