Camavinga, Significant Absence for Real Madrid

Real Madrid has confirmed that Eduardo Camavinga suffered an ankle sprain, which represents a new setback for the merengue team ahead of the start of the LaLiga season. Camavinga’s absence adds to the existing one of Jude Bellingham, who underwent shoulder surgery last month and is expected to be out of action until October. This situation poses significant challenges for Real Madrid’s midfield. The white team will start its 2025-26 season on August 19, receiving Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu, with the aim of improving its performance after a previous campaign in which they failed to win any major title. The club issued an official statement detailing Camavinga’s injury:

“Following tests carried out on Eduardo Camavinga by Real Madrid’s medical services, he has been diagnosed with a sprain in his right ankle.”

Eduardo Camavinga's injury leaves Real Madrid short of midfield options.
Camavinga, 22 years old, has suffered five injuries in the last 12 months, which limited his participation to 19 matches in LaLiga last season. The center midfielder position was a problem for Real Madrid last season, and the options have been even further reduced with the departure of Luka Modrić, who joined AC Milan this summer. The club has reinforced other areas in this transfer market, with the incorporations of defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Álvaro Carreras. In addition, winger Franco Mastantuono will join this week upon turning 18.

The new coach, Xabi Alonso, chose to field Arda Güler in midfield alongside Federico Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Bellingham during the Club World Cup, where Madrid reached the semi-finals.

Real Madrid is not expected to make any more signings this summer, unless there are any departures.
