Busquets Acknowledges Inter Miami’s Challenge in the Club World Cup
Inter Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets has acknowledged that the team is not currently at the level of competition required for the 2025 Club World Cup. However, the player emphasized the team’s determination to fight to advance in the group stage, regardless of the opponents.
It’s clear that we are not at the level to compete in the Club World Cup, but we will try to compete in our group. We will go match by match, fighting and, with luck, we will advance to the next round, although it will be difficult.

These statements arise after Inter Miami’s elimination from the Concacaf Champions Cup in the semifinals at the hands of the Vancouver Whitecaps, with a global score of 5-1.
After the elimination, Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano highlighted the superiority of the Vancouver Whitecaps and emphasized the need for the team to improve in the future.
Sometimes you have to accept that the opponent has the hierarchy and has surpassed us. They surpassed us.
Javier Mascherano
Inter Miami is preparing to face FC Porto, Al Ahly, and Palmeiras in Group A of the Club World Cup, after obtaining an additional spot as the host country by winning the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2024.
Despite Busquets’ statements, Mascherano clarified that the team is currently focused on MLS, prioritizing the domestic competition.
Now we have to stay focused on MLS. I’m not thinking about the Club Cup because there’s a month and a half left. Now is the time to focus on MLS. We have been competing in two competitions for two and a half months and we did well.
Javier Mascherano
Inter Miami will inaugurate the 32-team tournament, facing Al Ahly at Hard Rock Stadium on June 14.
