Brazil is bidding to host the 2029 Club World Cup, as announced by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
The president of the CBF, Samir Xaud, held a meeting with FIFA president Gianni Infantino last Friday, where the proposal was discussed.
“It all started with an introductory conversation. I talked about my goals as head of the CBF and said that we want to be closer to FIFA. I praised the event and the level of Brazilian clubs and, finally, made the country available to host the next Club World Cup,” said Xaud.
Samir Xaud, President of the CBFIn the statement, the CBF reported that Infantino was “receptive” to the idea.
“President Gianni Infantino was very happy and said that it is totally possible. Now we will work to make this happen. It will be a great goal,” added Xaud.El presidente de la FIFA, Gianni Infantino, presenció el partido inaugural de la Copa Mundial de Clubes entre el Inter Miami y Al Ahly junto a la leyenda brasileña Ronaldo. The current Club World Cup is taking place in the United States, with the participation of four Brazilian teams: Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, and Botafogo.
The tournament has generated criticism for the workload it imposes on elite players, after the end of the European season. The high temperatures in the United States have also been a topic of conversation.
South American teams have achieved unexpected victories over their European rivals. Paris Saint-Germain, Champions League winner, was surprised by Botafogo, and Chelsea fell to Flamengo.
Xaud assumed the presidency of the CBF in May, after a Rio de Janeiro court ordered the removal of the CBF’s board of directors.
The CBF’s announcement came towards the end of the FIFA 2025 executive football summit in Miami, which took place between June 19 and 21, where the 211 FIFA member associations met with the governing body’s hierarchy.
The Club World Cup is intended to be held every four years as a test event for the hosts of the following year’s World Cup. The 2026 tournament will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, while the 2030 World Cup will be held in Portugal, Spain, and Morocco. To commemorate the centenary of the first World Cup in 1930, three matches will also be played in South America, organized by Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina.
