Barcelona midfielder Gavi will miss up to five months of competition after undergoing surgery to treat a meniscus injury in his right knee, LaLiga club said on Tuesday. Gavi, who returned from an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the same knee last season, hasn’t played since August.

First team player Pablo Páez Gavira ‘Gavi’ has undergone arthroscopy to resolve an injury to the medial meniscus, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus. The recovery time is estimated at about 4-5 months.

Initially, Barcelona hoped to avoid surgery, but this was not possible. The player had already been out for 11 months after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament while playing with Spain in November 2023. Barcelona will face Real Oviedo on Thursday before hosting Real Sociedad on Sunday. The new timeline suggests that Gavi will not return until the last months of the Barcelona season and before the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
