Barcelona delays its return to Camp Nou

FC Barcelona has announced that the LaLiga match against Valencia, scheduled for Sunday, will be played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. This delays the team’s return to Spotify Camp Nou once again. The club hoped to play this match, the first at home in the league this season, at Camp Nou, which has been under renovation since 2023. However, the necessary permits have not been obtained in time. Barcelona has been playing at the Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc for the last two seasons, but this stadium is not available this week due to a Post Malone concert.
Barcelona last played at Camp Nou in 2023.
Therefore, the Estadi Johan Cruyff, with a capacity for 6,000 spectators and located next to the club’s training ground, has been chosen as the venue for the match.

“The match against Valencia will still not be able to be played at the Spotify Camp Nou,” Barça announced on Tuesday.

The club is working hard to obtain the necessary administrative permits for the opening of the Spotify Camp Nou in the coming weeks. Barça will play against Getafe at home the following week, on September 21, and now faces a new race against time to have the stadium ready for that match. The Johan Cruyff Stadium will also host the Liga F match between Barça Femení and Logroño on Friday. The Barcelona left the Camp Nou in 2023 to modernize the stadium and increase its capacity to more than 100,000 spectators. The return was expected for November 2024, with a reduced capacity of about 50,000 spectators. The team played the 2024-25 season at the Estadi Olímpic, and on August 10th of this year it was announced as the return date to Camp Nou, coinciding with the Joan Gamper trophy against Como. The match against Como was also moved to the Estadi Johan Cruyff at short notice, and LaLiga granted Barça permission to play their first three league matches away from home, in order to allow more time to prepare the Camp Nou. Hansi Flick’s team started the season with two away wins, against Mallorca and Levante, but drew 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano in their last match before the international break.
