Ferran Torres Praises Flick’s Tactical Adjustments After Barcelona’s Comeback

Ferran Torres highlighted the tactical modifications implemented by coach Hansi Flick during halftime, which were key in Barcelona’s brilliant comeback against Levante. The match, played at the Ciutat de Valencia, culminated in a 3-2 victory for the Blaugrana in LaLiga. Flick bet on Marcus Rashford from the start, moving Raphinha to the center and lining up Marc Casadó alongside Pedri, instead of Frenkie de Jong.

However, after a first half where Levante went ahead 2-0 thanks to goals from Iván Romero and José Luis Morales, Flick made significant changes. He replaced Rashford and Casado with Dani Olmo and Gavi, respectively, for the second half. In the second half, Pedri and Torres scored goals that leveled the score, and an own goal by Unai Elgezabal, after a good play by Lamine Yamal, completed the comeback in stoppage time.

“He made a couple of tactical adjustments [at halftime] because we weren’t well positioned,” Torres told the media after the match.

Torres added: “And, most importantly, he said we had to show our character, that winning gene we have. We came out well and were effective.”
Marcus Rashford's full debut for Barcelona ended when he was replaced at half-time in the win over Levante.
Coach Flick explained that the changes made at halftime were crucial for the team to achieve their second consecutive victory at the start of the season. “I think Marcus had some situations in the first half where he showed how good he is and how he can help us,” Flick said about Rashford’s LaLiga debut. “Of course, in the second half, we had to change something. Raphinha on the left side is our number 11. He knows everything [about how we play]; what we want to do when he has to come in. I think we made the right changes.” Despite the victory, Barcelona showed vulnerabilities in transition, with Levante’s goals coming after quick counterattacks. Flick acknowledged the need to improve in this aspect, ahead of the next match against Rayo Vallecano. “Levante defends very well, has very fast players, the transitions they make, it wasn’t easy to defend when you make mistakes,” he added. “Of course I feel proud [of the comeback], but this is what we have to improve. We weren’t perfect today, but I think it’s also a great compliment to Levante. We will talk about everything, we will analyze everything. Every game is always to improve. We have to do better. This game helps us to do it.”
