Madrid will host the 2027 Champions League final

UEFA confirmed that Madrid will host the 2027 men’s Champions League final. Atlético de Madrid’s Metropolitano stadium was chosen to host the event, surpassing the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan. Furthermore, UEFA announced that the National Stadium in Warsaw will host the women’s final in 2027. Initially, Milan’s San Siro stadium had been selected for the men’s final, but UEFA withdrew the organization rights in September 2024, after the Italian city could not ensure that the stadium, home to Inter Milan and AC Milan, would be in a condition to host the match due to possible reconstruction work on the venue, which is 99 years old.

The Metropolitano Stadium of Atlético de Madrid will host the Champions League final for the second time. After reopening the bidding process for the 2027 final in October 2024, UEFA only received two applications, from Madrid and Baku, before awarding the match to Madrid following an Executive Committee meeting in Tirana, Albania. The stadium, with a capacity of 70,692 spectators and which opened in 2017, is the home of Atlético de Madrid and already hosted the 2019 Champions League final, in which Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0. The end of 2027 will be the sixth time that Madrid hosts the most important event of the top club competition in Europe, and only London (eight) has been chosen more times than the Spanish capital.
