Scandal at Real Madrid: Raúl Asencio and former teammates accused of sexual offenses

Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio, along with three former teammates from the club’s youth categories, could face criminal charges for the alleged recording and distribution of images of sexual content of a woman and a minor without their consent.

According to the accusations, Asencio would have requested a video recorded by his former teammates from the youth academy, Andrés García, Ferrán Ruiz, and Juan Rodríguez. Said video would correspond to a sexual encounter from June 2023 between the former players and a woman, as well as a minor.

Upon concluding the investigation, the High Court of Justice of Gran Canaria issued an order on Wednesday to formalize the criminal proceedings against the four players. This decision paves the way for the prosecution to file charges and request a trial.

The judge considers that there is sufficient evidence to support the accusations of crimes such as violation of privacy, distribution of videos to third parties without the knowledge or consent of the victims, solicitation of a minor for pornographic purposes, and possession of child pornography.

The four players involved were arrested in September 2023 and the police seized their mobile phones. Real Madrid confirmed that the players had given statements about “the dissemination of a private video via WhatsApp”.

Police reported that the mother of a 16-year-old girl filed a complaint in the Canary Islands regarding the alleged recording, to which she had not given her consent.

In February, the court rejected an appeal filed by Asencio to end the investigation into his alleged involvement in the events.

The player has been a regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s team this season and started in the match against Mallorca on Wednesday.
