Arteta backs Arsenal: Trusts the handling of the Partey case
Thomas Partey left Arsenal this summer. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his full confidence that the club followed the correct protocols during Thomas Partey’s time at the team. Partey, who recently ended his contract with Arsenal, was accused of five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The accusations, which involve three women, refer to incidents that occurred between 2021 and 2022. Partey denies all accusations. The midfielder was initially arrested in July 2022, which led to an investigation by the Metropolitan Police. The case was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service in December 2024. During this time, Partey continued playing for Arsenal, and Arteta suggested in May that the club wanted to offer the Ghanaian international a new contract.

After the charges were confirmed, Arsenal issued a statement indicating that the player’s contract ended on June 30 and that, due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club could not comment on the case. During Arsenal’s pre-season tour in Asia, Arteta was asked about his reaction to the accusations against Partey. The coach responded that the club had already been clear in its statement and that he could not comment on complicated legal matters. When asked if he trusted that the club had followed the correct processes, Arteta replied: “100%”.
