Antonio Returns to Football: After Accident, Plays with Jamaica in Gold Cup
Michail Antonio, after overcoming a recovery period following a car accident, has returned to professional football. The forward played for Jamaica in the Gold Cup on Tuesday. Antonio entered as a substitute in the second half of the match where Jamaica lost 1-0 against Guatemala in Los Angeles. The 35-year-old player, who is in contract negotiations with West Ham, suffered a fracture in a lower limb that required surgery in December. After his Ferrari went off the road and crashed into a tree, Antonio spent three weeks in the hospital and expressed his gratitude for being alive. The contract of Antonio with West Ham ends on June 30. Earlier this month, the club stated that helping him in his rehabilitation and recovery remained a priority, considering the “unique” situation. Since joining the London club in 2015, Antonio has scored 68 goals in 268 league games, becoming West Ham’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League.
