Ange Postecoglou Claims Ignorance of Meetings About His Future Despite Tottenham Title

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has stated that he is unaware of any meetings regarding his future at the club. These statements come after the team’s victory in the Europa League final, breaking a 17-year title drought for the Spurs.

Brennan Johnson scored the only goal that gave Tottenham the victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final held at San Mamés. This triumph marks the club’s first trophy since the League Cup in 2008.

This is Tottenham’s first European honor in 41 years, solidifying Postecoglou’s success in his second season, following his previous achievements with Celtic, Yokohama F. Marinos, Australia and Brisbane Roar.

Despite this success, the coach could face challenges to keep his position, after Tottenham suffered 21 defeats in the Premier League and was in seventeenth position in the table before the last matchday.

Victory in the Europa League secured Tottenham a place in the next edition of the Champions League, as well as a significant financial reward estimated at around 100 million pounds.

When asked about possible meetings with the board to discuss his future, Postecoglou replied: “There are no meetings planned. I haven’t had any conversations. Nobody has spoken to me about anything. Maybe they felt it wasn’t necessary or maybe they’re waiting for this game.”

Postecoglou added that after the match, he would meet with his family and friends to celebrate, preparing for a parade and the next match against Brighton, before taking a well-deserved vacation.

And that will be, will be.

Postecoglou revealed that since January he prioritized winning the Europa League, after analyzing the state of his squad, affected by injuries.

The coach highlighted the difficulty of his job: “It has definitely been the hardest thing I’ve done, without a doubt. I knew what to expect. This club has had incredible world-class coaches and players, and they haven’t had a night like this.”

Postecoglou also mentioned that in the past, success had given him everyone’s confidence, but that at Tottenham, the situation was different, understanding the club’s recent history. He explained that despite this, he made the decision to focus on the Europa League, a decision that might have differed from the opinion of others in the club, but that ultimately resulted in victory.

Postecoglou reiterated his desire to continue working with the team. The 59-year-old coach has two years remaining on his contract and stated: “I would be disappointed not to be able to continue on this path. I understand why it would be difficult for a club like this to buy into a person’s vision.”

Postecoglou concluded with a reflection on his career: “I am a winner. I have been a serial winner throughout my career. It’s what I’ve done more than anything else. I know people talk about my football, of which I am very proud.”
