Botafogo of Davide Ancelotti Eliminated from Copa Libertadores

Botafogo, managed by Davide Ancelotti, son of the renowned coach Carlo Ancelotti, was eliminated from the Copa Libertadores in the round of 16. The Brazilian team, the current champion, failed to overcome Liga de Quito from Ecuador.

After winning the first leg at home with a score of 1-0 last week, Botafogo was defeated in the second leg in Ecuador by 2-0.

Liga de Quito will face Sao Paulo FC in the quarterfinals.

Liga de Quito’s goals were scored by Gabriel Villamil in the 7th minute and Lisandro Alzugaray, who converted a penalty in the 60th minute, sealing the victory in Quito.

Davide Ancelotti, 35 years old, took over at Botafogo in July, marking his debut as a full-time coach.

Last month, Ancelotti signed a contract until 2026, following the dismissal of Renato Paiva by Botafogo owner John Textor, after the team’s elimination in the round of 16 of the Club World Cup.

The Italian coach has worked for more than a decade alongside his father in different roles in teams such as Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton, and Real Madrid. Currently, he is also part of the coaching staff of the Brazilian national team.
