Amorim backs Fernandes’ criticism after Manchester United draw

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has expressed his support for Bruno Fernandes’ criticisms of the team’s performance in the 2-2 draw against Everton. Amorim stated he was pleased that his players pointed out deficiencies in the performance, thus showing their commitment to the club’s continuous improvement.

I’m glad the players have that feeling. It means they understand the situation. It’s a good sign. The momentum of the tour was perfect.

Fernandes described some parts of the game at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium as “lazy”. Amorim, when asked if he supported his captain’s words, insisted that he has no problem with players demanding of each other, especially in their effort to improve the culture at Old Trafford. The coach also highlighted the importance of the preseason, mentioning the good atmosphere and preparation for the start of the season. The team returns to Carrington with the mindset that “we need to improve many things”.

In addition to his analysis of the game against Everton, Fernandes also expressed to NBC his hope that the club can incorporate “one or two more players” before the close of the transfer market. United has invested a considerable sum of money in players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who debuted against Everton. The club also maintains interest in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. When asked about Fernandes’ comments, Amorim stated that “a team can always improve with more players, but we have players to create that competition.” The coach emphasized the need to improve as a team and expressed satisfaction with the current squad. Negotiations to sign Sesko continue. RB Leipzig is also in talks with Newcastle United, who have made a formal offer for the player. Before the match against Everton, United’s chief executive, Omar Berrada, stated that the recruitment team is working “tirelessly” to add more players to the squad. Berrada explained to MUTV that the recruitment team, led by Jason Wilcox, is committed to seeking opportunities to strengthen the team, with numerous meetings and calls to stay on top of the situation.
