An American consortium, led by the owners of the San Francisco 49ers and health magnate Andrew Cavenegh, has finalized the acquisition of Scottish football giants Rangers, the club confirmed this Friday.
The investor group has acquired a majority stake of 51% of the club. The Rangers reported that the new vision for the future focuses on “on-field performance” and “long-term financial sustainability.”
The club added in a statement that the new management has already invested 20 million pounds (27 million dollars).
49ers Enterprises, the investment arm of the NFL team, already owns Leeds United, which recently achieved promotion to the English Premier League after winning the Championship title this season.
The Rangers have won 55 league titles in Scotland, but this year their count was matched by their arch-rivals Celtic, who also play football in Glasgow. The Rangers haven’t won a title since 2021, while Celtic have won 13 of the last 14 league titles.The history and traditions of this club speak for themselves, but history doesn’t win matches.
