Sei Young Kim Leads the BMW Ladies Championship

South Korean golfer Sei Young Kim consolidated her leading position at the BMW Ladies Championship after an outstanding performance in the second round of the tournament. Kim, who started the championship with an impressive round of 62 strokes, maintained his good performance with a card of 66 strokes this Friday, accumulating a total of 16 under par, with a score of 128 at the Pine Beach Golf Links. His performance included seven birdies and one bogey, highlighting a streak of three consecutive birdies in the first nine holes.

There’s a lot of pressure on the third and fourth days, but it’s not just me. Everyone will have the same pressure. But I just want to accept the fact and enjoy the rest of the tournament.

Brooke Matthews, from the United States, placed second with a score of 64, the best of the day. Hyo Joo Kim and Rio Takeda shared third place, three strokes behind the leader. Matthews, a former University of Arkansas player, had a bogey-free round that included birdies on her first two holes and on holes 17 and 18.

It’s a little funny, I didn’t feel very comfortable going into this week, playing in China last week, I really didn’t have the best of me. But (that) made me go out and play it shot by shot, lower expectations and I feel like I handled it very well. I just stayed in the moment and ended up making some putts and accumulating good scores.

Minjee Lee of Australia, with a score of 66, placed sixth, six strokes behind Kim. Brooke Henderson of Canada, with 68 strokes, and defending champion Hannah Green, with 69 strokes, are seven and nine strokes behind the leader, respectively. This tournament marks the beginning of two consecutive LPGA events in South Korea, followed by the International Crown team event next week. Last week, Jeeno Thitikul became the first multiple winner of the LPGA season with a playoff victory in Shanghai over Minami Katsu. Thitikul is not participating in this tournament, but will be part of the Thailand team at the International Crown. After the International Crown, two more LPGA events were scheduled on the five-event Asian tour, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and in Japan.
