Keegan Murray Signs Million-Dollar Extension with the Kings
Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray has agreed to a five-year, $140 million contract extension with the franchise. This was confirmed by representatives Mark Bartelstein and Kyle McAlarney of Priority Sports.
Murray, selected at number 4 in the 2022 NBA draft, secures his long-term stay as a key player in Sacramento until the 2030-31 season.
In his rookie season, Murray made an immediate impact with the Kings, being included in the All-Rookie team and contributing to Sacramento ending their playoff drought as a full-time starter. Although his offensive numbers have remained stable since then, he has improved as a defender, an important need for an offensively-inclined Kings team.
According to data, Murray is one of three players to record 500 three-pointers, 150 blocks, and 150 steals in the last three seasons, along with Anthony Edwards of Minnesota and Derrick White of Boston. He serves as the Kings’ primary perimeter defender, guarding 2025 All-Stars in 1,005 half-court matchups last season, the fifth-most in the NBA.
In the previous season, Murray averaged 12.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 34.3 minutes in 76 games.
The 25-year-old player has enjoyed remarkable health throughout the first three years of his career, playing in 233 of 246 total games, starting all but two of them. However, he will miss at least the first 10 games of this season after suffering a rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb during a preseason game and undergoing surgery.
Murray is one of seven players to achieve at least 150 three-pointers in each of his first three NBA seasons. His absence means the Kings will be without an important spacer and their most reliable defender in the first month, as they seek to compete for a spot in the Western Conference playoffs.
Murray is the sixth player to agree to a rookie extension this year before the Monday deadline at 11:59 p.m. ET.
