The last episode of “SmackDown” presented a show with ups and downs, although it left memorable moments. The night crowned a new champion and showed a more aggressive side of Cody Rhodes.

Ilja Dragunov Conquers the United States Championship

Ilja Dragunov’s return to WWE action was triumphant. Dragunov, after overcoming an anterior cruciate ligament injury, answered the open challenge for Sami Zayn’s United States Championship. The match was intense, with Solo Sikoa getting involved to distract Zayn, which allowed Dragunov to execute his “Moscow Torpedo” and an “H-Bomb” to win the title.
  • Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss defeated Zaria and Sol Ruca.
  • Ilja Dragunov defeated Sami Zayn to become the new United States Champion.
  • Motor City Machine Guns defeated Los Garza.
  • Drew McIntyre defeated Cody Rhodes by disqualification.

Cody Rhodes: A New Villain on the Horizon?

Cody Rhodes showed a more aggressive side, using the championship as a weapon against Drew McIntyre. This attitude could be an indication of a character change, although it seems unlikely at this time, as Rhodes is destined to take on an important role in WWE.
The Undisputed Title match was interrupted after Jacob Fatu was attacked backstage, ending with Rhodes’ disqualification after hitting McIntyre with the belt.
The rivalry between McIntyre and Rhodes remains unresolved, and a number one contender was not determined on “SmackDown.” Fatu suffered an attack that prevented him from competing, but if the news about his injury is true, he could return to the title contention.
The Dragunov and Zayn match had a great impact. Dragunov’s victory could lead to a rivalry between Zayn and Sikoa, in addition to the MFT who attacked both after the match. Rey Fenix tried to help Zayn and Dragunov, but was stopped by Tama Tonga. This could be the beginning of a rivalry between the MFT and this group of wrestlers.
Zayn once again demonstrated his ability to deliver quality matches with any opponent, while Blake Monroe watched Sol Ruca, whom she will challenge for the NXT women’s title.
