Wales Breaks Streak and Beats Italy in the Six Nations

Wales secured a significant victory in the Six Nations Tournament on Saturday, overcoming Italy with a score of 31-17 in Cardiff. This triumph marks a significant milestone for the Welsh team. The victory ends a 15-match winless streak in the competition, dating back to before the last World Cup. This result is a relief for Welsh rugby, which has experienced a decline in the last three years.

It was a very emotional day, a victory in the Six Nations has been a long time coming.

Tandy, Wales head coach
Wales head coach Tandy expressed his pride after securing his second success in nine matches as coach. He highlighted the team’s desire, physicality, and work ethic, and acknowledged the importance of this triumph. Wales dominated the first half, with two tries from Aaron Wainwright and another from captain Dewi Lake, as well as three conversions from Dan Edwards, giving them a 21-0 lead at halftime. Edwards scored another try, which he converted, shortly after the restart, before Italy finally managed to get on the scoreboard. Martino di Bartolomeo scored for the visitors, and a yellow card to Welsh prop Archie Griffin helped Italy get back into the game. Tommaso Allan added Italy’s second try with 20 minutes to go, and it looked like Monty Ioane had scored the third, but it was ruled that he had been dragged out of the field by Ellis Mee before grounding the ball in the corner. Italy appeared to score again minutes later when Leonardo Marin turned over, but his effort was also ruled out for a ball-handling foul. Paolo Garbisi scored a third try for the visitors, but it was already too late, as Wales held firm to achieve a deserved victory.
