Uini Atonio: France Prop Retires Due to Heart Problem
The pillar of France, Uini Atonio, retires from rugby. The rugby world is shocked after the news that French prop Uini Atonio is retiring from the sport due to a heart problem. The 35-year-old player, currently in stable condition, was hospitalized after suffering a cardiac event. La Rochelle, his team in the Top 14, confirmed the news, reporting that Atonio remains in intensive care. The news comes just before the start of the Six Nations tournament, where Atonio had been called up to represent France. The official statement from La Rochelle revealed details about Atonio’s situation:

“Uini Atonio was admitted yesterday to the La Rochelle Hospital Center following a suspected cardiac problem. Medical examinations confirmed a cardiac event. His condition is now stable and he remains in intensive care under observation. Following his hospitalization, Uini will have to undergo a long recovery period. It is now established that he will not be able to continue his career as a player.”
