Kevin Sinfield has expressed his commitment to “support in any way possible” after learning of the diagnosis of motor neuron disease (MND) of former England rugby captain Lewis Moody. Sinfield, who has been a fervent advocate in the fight against MND, has led fundraising initiatives that have generated over 10 million pounds sterling (approximately 13.4 million dollars) for research and awareness of this disease. His main motivation has been his friend and teammate at the Leeds Rhinos, Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND in 2019. Burrow passed away at 41 years old last June, due to complications from the disease.

Lewis Moody captained England during his rugby career.

Sinfield, currently the coach of the England rugby team, told the PA news agency: “Obviously, I am very saddened by the news. I would like to wish Lewis, and all his family and friends, the best.”

I will support in any way I can. We have to keep fighting against MND together.

Sinfield was recognized with a CBE last year for his services to the community of the ENM. Sinfield’s next fundraising challenge, “7 in 7: Together”, is scheduled for early December, where he will run seven ultramarathons in seven days through seven cities or regions. In May 2023, Sinfield carried his friend Burrow over the finish line at the Leeds Marathon, an emblematic moment that symbolized his unwavering support.
