Kevin Sinfield has expressed his full support after learning of the diagnosis of motor neuron disease (MND) of former England rugby captain Lewis Moody. Since his friend and teammate at Leeds Rhinos, Rob Burrow, was diagnosed with the disease in 2019, Sinfield has raised more than £10 million to fund research and raise awareness of MND. Burrow passed away at 41 years old last June due to complications from the disease.

Sinfield, currently the coach of the England rugby team, told the PA news agency: “Obviously, I am very saddened by the news. I would like to wish Lewis and all his family and friends the best.”

I will support in any way I can. We have to keep fighting together against MND.

Sinfield’s next fundraising challenge, 7 in 7: Together, is scheduled for early December, when he will run seven ultramarathons in seven days through seven cities or regions. In May 2023, Sinfield carried his friend Burrow over the finish line at the Leeds Marathon.
