Owen Farrell Joins the British and Irish Lions in Australia

Sources close to the situation confirm that Owen Farrell will join the British and Irish Lions team in Australia. The English player will join the team following the arm injury suffered by back Elliot Daly in the 52-12 victory over the Queensland Reds in Brisbane on Wednesday. Daly underwent an X-ray after the match. Farrell last played for England at the 2023 World Cup in France, before announcing he would take a break from international rugby for personal reasons. He has been capped 112 times for England.

Owen Farrell played for the Lions in the test series of 2013, 2017 and 2021. Subsequently, he joined the French team Racing 92, which prevented him from playing for his country, as English players must play in England at club level to be considered for the national team.

Although this move did not make him ineligible for the Lions tour, he was excluded from the initial call-up by the coach, and father, Andy Farrell in May.

In June, his return to England and the Saracens club was announced after a season in France, confirming that Farrell had not retired from international rugby and would not rule out playing for England again. His return to the international scene has been accelerated with the call-up to the Lions, who will face Australia in the first of three test matches on July 19.
