Ojomoh Shines in the 12: English Boost for the Six Nations

Max Ojomoh revealed that the abundance of talent in England’s midfield was the inspiration behind his outstanding performance in his debut at the Allianz Stadium against Argentina on Sunday. Ojomoh, who entered the field as a late replacement in the inside center position following Fraser Dingwall’s withdrawal due to a strain, responded with a Player of the Match performance. He scored a try and assisted on two more. This poses a selection challenge for Steve Borthwick ahead of the Six Nations opener against Wales on February 7th, with Ojomoh, Dingwall, and Seb Atkinson competing for a starting spot in a position that has been problematic for England.

“A year ago, people were going crazy about a crisis in the center,” Ojomoh said after winning his second international match, as Steve Borthwick’s team completed an autumn sweep.

“Now I see Seb, Fraser, Ollie Lawrence, Luke Northmore and many number 12s emerging, and that kind of competition drives everyone to perform at a higher level. It’s a very competitive position, so there are many contenders for a position in the field. If you are in shape, you move forward. After opening the scoring with a try in the 10th minute, he set up tries in each half for Immanuel Feyi-Waboso and Henry Slade. Feyi-Waboso ran after catching Ojomoh’s kick pass, while Slade benefited from his teammate’s run and pass to score a crucial try.

“My favorite part was the cross kick because I’ve never done that in the Prem,” Ojomoh said.

“I’ve tried it when I’ve had penalty advantage and missed them all, so it was a great moment for it to work. And to kick it to a very good friend, Manny [Feyi-Waboso] — I’m glad he scored the try. I was very surprised by the pass. I saw Sladey and thought ‘nothing to lose, better to try’. England accumulated its eleventh consecutive victory by defeating the Pumas and enters the Six Nations as a true title contender.

“I’m very pleased for the team that they’ve got four out of four this month. It’s a great note to finish on,” said Ojomoh.

“It has been a very good campaign for a very well-knit team. It’s good to be a part of it.”
