In what is considered the most anticipated match of the group stage, the Black Ferns demonstrated their superiority. Ireland, although showing fighting spirit, could not match the performance of the five-time champions. Ireland accepted New Zealand’s haka challenge, advancing before both teams held a tense confrontation that ignited the pro-Ireland fans.
Ireland started the match with great energy, dominating the first few minutes, but failed to convert that advantage into points, which allowed New Zealand to stay in the game. The Black Ferns kept their cool and scored their first try at 15 minutes. After a miss by Ireland’s Dannah O’Brien, New Zealand took the opportunity, passing the ball to Stacey Waaka, who scored the first try of the match.
