Marlie Packer Fit for England Debut at Women’s Rugby World Cup

Flanker Marlie Packer will be available for England’s opening match at the Women’s Rugby World Cup, after serving a one-match suspension.

Packer, who acted as captain in the match, was sent off on Saturday during the 97-7 victory over Spain in a World Cup warm-up match in Leicester.

The player was sanctioned for a dangerous contact in a ruck, where her shoulder impacted and bent the leg of the Spanish fullback Claudia Pena.

Packer disagreed with the red card during the disciplinary hearing, but the panel did not concur, considering the action as reckless play.

Therefore, he will miss England’s final preparation match against France next Saturday.

England will debut in the World Cup against the United States on August 22 in Sunderland.
