Ireland Starts the World Cup with Victory over Japan

Eve Higgins was the key figure in scoring the decisive try, propelling Ireland to a 42-14 victory over Japan in the start of the World Cup.

Japan, ranked 11th in the world, was in a recovery moment at Franklin’s Gardens, looking to reduce a 28-14 deficit.

However, when it seemed that Japan was about to score again, Higgins intercepted a pass and ran to score a crucial try. This blow was difficult for Japan to assimilate, who failed to recover.

Ireland demonstrated their strength by overcoming a complicated Group C rival, taking advantage of their physical superiority. Early errors prevented them from taking the lead before Amee-Leigh Costigan’s try in the fifth minute.

Japan ceded ground in the confrontations, and to consolidate Ireland’s physical superiority, Neve Jones scored a try after a maul.

The Japanese managed to come back, showing skill and athleticism in possession, and Haruka Hirotsu scored a try to reward their efforts.

Ireland responded with effective attacks, with Costigan and Beibhinn Parsons combining for a dynamic try, and Fiona Tuite taking advantage of Higgins’ footwork.

Japan’s maul took over after the break, allowing Masami Kawamura to score, but another promising period ended against the Irish defense.

The best attack of the match came from Japan, using their speed and skill, but Higgins appeared at the critical moment.

Japan suffered a harsh setback, and Enya Breen, substitute, scored another try for Ireland, who finished the match strongly.
