Ireland Debuts with Victory at the Women’s Rugby World Cup

In an exciting match, Ireland surpassed Japan with a score of 42-14, demonstrating their strength and determination at the start of the world tournament.

The match, played at Franklin’s Gardens, saw Japan, ranked eleventh in the world, fighting to overcome a 28-14 deficit. However, standout player Eve Higgins secured the victory for Ireland with a crucial try.

Higgins intercepted a pass and ran along the field to score, dealing a hard blow to Japan, who couldn’t recover.

Ireland, showing their physical superiority, took advantage of Japan’s initial mistakes. Amee-Leigh Costigan scored the first try for Ireland, followed by a try from Neve Jones.

Japan responded with skill and athleticism, with Haruka Hirotsu scoring a try. Ireland took the lead again with Costigan and Beibhinn Parsons, and then with Fiona Tuite.

After the break, Japan scored a try through Masami Kawamura. Despite their efforts, Higgins stood out again, securing the advantage for Ireland.

Enya Breen, who came on as a substitute, also contributed a try, sealing the Irish victory.
