Hansen leads Ireland’s victory over Australia with a historic hat-trick

Mack Hansen shone with a hat-trick in the first half, propelling Ireland to a resounding 46-19 victory over Australia in Dublin. The Canberra-born player celebrated his return from a foot injury with three scores in the first 28 minutes, delighting the fans at the Aviva Stadium. Caelan Doris, Ryan Baird, and Robbie Henshaw’s tries in the second half secured the victory for coach Andy Farrell against former Ireland boss Joe Schmidt. Australia closed the gap on the scoreboard with tries from Len Ikitau and Fraser McReight, and a late score from Billy Pollard, but Ireland held firm to achieve a deserved victory. Out-half Sam Prendergast contributed seven points, including a drop goal, before being replaced by Jack Crowley, who added nine more points.

Farrell’s team, with nine changes from the previous match against Japan, demonstrated their superiority from the start on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Hansen scored twice in the first 11 minutes, and then added a third try. Australia responded with a try from Ikitau, but Hansen, a Cork native, scored again. At halftime, the score was 19-14 in favor of Ireland, with a try by McReight for Australia. Crowley, who replaced Prendergast, added a penalty to extend the lead to 25-14. Doris and Baird also scored, while Pollard reduced the difference for Australia. Ireland responded with Baird and Henshaw to seal a resounding victory.
