Owen Farrell’s return to Saracens could materialize next season, according to rugby director Mark McCall. Farrell, who played 16 years at Saracens before joining Racing 92 in January 2024, is reportedly considering a return to England after a debut season marked by injuries in the French Top 14.

We believe we are a bit vulnerable in the opening position.

McCall noted that opening and center Alex Lozowski will be out until Christmas due to an Achilles tendon injury, and veteran Alex Goode has retired. The process involves drawing up a list of potential candidates. Although Farrell was not initially on that list due to his contract with Racing, there are indications that Racing might be willing to negotiate and that the player would also be open to the possibility. For this to happen, two conditions must be met: that Racing allows his departure at a price that the club is willing to pay, and that Farrell accepts a lower salary than the current one.

If Owen enters the list, he seems like a very good option for the value for money he would provide.

Farrell could return to Saracens: Luxury reinforcement due to injury?
Farrell has had problems with a groin injury in his debut season at Racing 92. McCall added that, in addition to talent, the ability to think clearly on the field is crucial, something in which Farrell excels. Additionally, Farrell maintains a solid relationship with Louis Johnson, with whom he communicates monthly. His willingness to share knowledge and experience could be very beneficial for young developing talents. Farrell was not included in the British and Irish Lions squad that will travel to Australia this summer, although the head coach, Andy Farrell, his father, has not ruled out his possible call-up.
