England Strengthens its Technical Staff for the Summer Tour
Steve Borthwick has added Lee Blackett and Byron McGuigan to England’s coaching staff for their summer tour of Argentina and the United States.
Blackett, recognized for his work in Bath, where he transformed the team’s attack, and McGuigan, who has excelled as a defense coach at Sale, join the coaching staff.
Blackett will take over from Richard Wigglesworth, who is on duty with the British & Irish Lions. Meanwhile, McGuigan will collaborate with Joe El-Abd in directing the English defense. Both additions will be made provisionally for the summer tour.
England will face Argentina in La Plata on July 5 and again in San Juan on July 12. Subsequently, they will face the USA Eagles in Washington D.C. on July 19.

“Lee and Byron will be excellent additions to our technical group this summer,” Borthwick stated.

Borthwick added that “England traditionally travels to Argentina when the British & Irish Lions play. It’s a summer series that has always provided a fantastic opportunity for Premiership coaches to work in the test environment. I am delighted that we can do it once again.”
“Both Lee and Byron have a mindset and approach to their coaching that aligns very much with the way we want to continue to play. Lee has a proven track record of developing teams that play intelligent and effective attacking rugby. Byron brings an energy and a strong understanding of the game that underpins an aggressive defense,” he added.
The tour will also mark the start of Phil Morrow as the team’s head of performance, following his move to England from Saracens.
